27.11. 2005 Ilha do Sal (Cape Verde)
We are now in flight by five hours. There waiting for the other two ..
Before we flew over the African countries, very exciting ... and low white houses and from the desert ...
Once, after a short walk on the beach (which, inter alia, because of the high salinity of the water, illuminated by the sun, was pink, what a show!). We stripped: away long pants, the jacket and shoes ... only worn the suit and flip flops all afternoon we were about to discover this new place.
In the morning, including my aunt and Claudia, took a taxi, we visited the nearest town to our resort: Santa Maria. Our taxi suddenly stopped in a large open space, and I, "No, sorry, bring in the city!" "This is the center" (which buzzword!), A square, but I say square, an open space, thin , bare, with a pair of skeletal dogs who taunted each other, one of these made me die laughing when to protect themselves from excessive heat He's dug a trench in the sand and stuck in there! I got out we are attacked by many vendors, all from Senegal or Guinea-Bissau! (For the series: there is always someone worse off than others!)
Among them was Ismail, a friendly Senegalese who made us from Cicero, took us everywhere, explained a bit 'of things about Cape Verde, how many Italians are investing a lot of money here constructing resorts! On my proposal showed us where he lived ... A small room, dirty and smelly that he shared with five other compatriots who insult to misery is our resort by comparison, so close yet so far ... Ismail's house there is no water or bathroom, wash, when it happens in public showers or at sea, the women to cook or wash go to the public fountain and fill the buckets ...
At 11.30 we saw on the pier, the return of the boats after fishing trip! What a sight! As in the documentary! They came with these boats full of fish and place them directly on the cleaned and sold.
In the afternoon we finally plunge for the first time in the Atlantic Ocean. How nice! [Claudia]: "Although this is happiness"

28. 11. 2005 Ilha do Sal (Cape Verde)
Wake up early, the rest still we're not used to the time zone, let us open your eyes along with herons who walk below our balcony. With a rickety taxi, half broken, led by Nelson's nice, we visited the town of Palmeira, a small but very nice marina, with some Senegalese selling counterfeit shoes (too: bad) and some Cape Verdean lounging in the sun. Speaking with some Italians who live here have told me that whoever makes the most menial tasks are those that come from: Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Ghana, Togo, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde have because this little desire to work.
Who knows why, maybe it is the philosophy of the islanders generally not stressed to much, just work, I also saw at the airport when the porters unloaded their luggage, they did so with such calm as if to say: "No one runs behind !

From there we went to visit a Espargos salt seemed to be in Israel, there were real mountains of salt and a basin much like the Dead Sea where even when you dive: stay afloat ... completely covered with salt ...

On the way back we stopped in a desolate village where there were many children playing for "road" (the street so to speak because he was a huge open space dusty sand). I did stop the taxi and my aunt have distributed many "gifts" to the boys: shirts, hats, backpacks, backpacks, pens, etc.. I was literally attacked seemed many bees on honey .. and honey ... I was ...
With a quick pit stop at the airport, book a flight to the island of Boavista.

Today the ocean was angry! Jeff and I we took advantage for a ride in Santa Maria. We encountered one of those classic African football: huge, nor any network ports, there was a bunch of kids playing soccer, barefoot, dressed in shirts of big European clubs, and then I slipped there are also I ... what fun! But no one ever passed me the ball!?!

30. 11. 2005 Rabil (Cape Verde)
30. 11. 2005 Rabil (Cape Verde)
Careful to define "African" the Cape Verdeans, get angry, they are non-African Creole!

This morning we flew to the island with a flight of Boavista Cabo Verde Airlines. Unaware, we were about to experience the most exciting adventure of the trip.
After a flight of 20 minutes, there was hardly check-in at the airport, landed we rented a jeep with driver-pickup: Francisco, a nice guy Guinea-Bissau has made us company all day!

We jumped on a small desert dunes, as we said our friend, has formed with the sand blown by the wind!
From there we leave at a time of romaticissima and unspoiled beach of Santa Monica ... there was not a living soul, only unimmensa white beach of 18 km on the shoreline in order to beat the deep blue Atlantic Ocean.
We relaxed a bit 'there, us and nature that surrounds us completely, eating one of the two bananas that have formed our lunch and dinner ...

Next stop: a village a few houses where we continued our work of "UN ambassadors" distributing: pens, pencils, backpacks, etc.. to the many children we met in the village square ...
From there to 30 km we visit two villages, after a long dirt path (note that the roads are paved but not built, stone by stone, by hand, in the true sense of the word, by these poor Africans) come to Joao Galego and we are immediately struck by the vivid colors of bright and small houses. [Aunt Anna]: "Here is not doing badly!"

This is not Africa, Africa is poverty, misery, filth. Here we live quietly, but with little decoration, all have a smile, all in their nothing are happy!

Fundo Das A Figueiras meet a Portuguese nun who was walking with three sweet girls, three "chocolate"! So pretty, I have tenderness when one of them, with a lovely voice, whispered: "Obrigado" (thanks) to my aunt who gave her a lollipop!
... And it's off to the airport ...

Missed the flight, get ready to enjoy this out program that shows us glimpses of local life. So what do we discover Cape Verde in a classic weekday evening after dinner is like seeing Italy 50 years ago, or better, South Italy, in a normal summer night ... The difference is that now, the players were all blacks. Saw children playing barefoot in chasing skinny center square, some elderly ladies (style "Mami" of "Gone With the Wind"), who sat talking quietly, with their big butts on benches arranged chatting about this and that . And you want to discuss? Nothing ever happens there! Some old men sitting on the step of displaying their colorful houses, looking lost perhaps in the distant past, which saw them now courting a beautiful island, or catch a big fish or a shark, because here there are many.
